Caleb Keene (1862 - 1954)

Keene was a landscape painter born in Stourbridge, England. He painted in France, Belgium and Africa. He was active in Montreal, Quebec (1914 - 1916), Toronto (c. 1940), and Oakville, Ontario where he died. Working in oils, his subjects included the Quebec Laurentian landscape as well as still life. He was also well known for his highly decorated furniture with oriental and medieval designs in lacquer. He was the father of artist Louis Keene. He exhibited with the RCA in 1915, the AAM in 1914, 1915, 1916, and Eaton Fine Art Galleries, Toronto in the 1930s and 1940s.
