Collection: John Dennis Davy
1894 - 1954
Born in Burnley, Lancashire, England in 1894. Davy served in the British Army throughout WWI. In 1922 he and his wife Mary emigrated to Canada. He was employed in the textile industry during most of his working life.
John Dennis Davy was a self-taught artist. His early work was in pen and ink as well as in watercolour. Later on, he moved to oil painting in the late 1930’s and used this medium throughout the 1940’s. He sketched extensively in the Hamilton area, mainly in and around the Dundas Marsh. He was a long-time member of the Hamilton Art Club serving as the President of the allied Sketch Club. His work was exhibited on numerous occasions in the Hamilton Art Gallery. Davy passed on in 1954.
Some proceeds of this sale will go to Hamilton projects to help homeless women.
