Collection: John Richer
John Richer is a multidisciplinary artist based in Sheffield, Ontario. His introduction to art began when he was a child, painting alongside his grandmother who was an artist. They would often walk the woods and fields on her farm, fascinated and inspired by the discoveries they encountered.
John studied English Literature at York University from 1992-1995 and received his Bachelor of Arts Degree. He then attended Mohawk College between 1995-1997, earning an honours diploma in Graphic Design & Illustration.
From 1997-2011 he pursued a career as a Graphic Designer with a number of print companies, creating and preparing print work for a wide variety of clientele. In 2008, he and his family had the opportunity to purchase his grandparents’ farm where he spent much of his childhood growing up. John set about small scale farming and began to discover his connection with nature, gradually transitioning to fine art. By 2017 he began painting, drawing and printmaking, rediscovering a newfound appreciation for the handmade and traditional methods of creation. He has since exhibited his paintings, illustrations and prints in various group and solo shows.
Richer’s works encompass a diverse range of styles and techniques, informed by the cyclical patterns he witnesses in his environment. Energetically intense and emotive, John’s paintings exude a sense of potent vibrancy beneath their realistic surface. His work is influenced by the gradual changes he sees within Nature - striving to capture and channel that same energy into his work.
Today John pays homage to Nature through art, continually inspired by its infinite level of transformative beauty.
